Legal information and advice about English law of contract and tort i.e. civil wrongs for businesses
Introduction
In the United Kingdom jurisdictions, the law of contract and tort was developed by the common law. Since the 19th century, the law has been increasingly modified by statute.
The law relating to contracts and torts deals with the creation and enforcement of legal obligations owed by one person to another. The law relating to contracts is concerned with the creation and enforcement of legally binding promises between two or or more parties.
The law ot torts deals with the recognition of civil wrongs committed by a person otherwise than within a contract and the recovery of a remedy for the person wronged. Certain torts are considered so harmful to the interests of the State that they are also crimes, e.g. assault, fraud and theft.
